Active Recruitment are looking for a Head of SEN for a specialist ASD 11-19 hub within a mainstream secondary school based in East London. This is a permanent position for September 2022, TLR potentially available with interviews taking place ASAP.

 

The ASD provision is part of a mainstream school where the focus is to provide education and life chances for those students with additional learning needs. The students spend some of the time learning within the ASD hub along with integration within the mainstream school.

 

Job Role:

 

The head of Department will provide leadership and direction for the ASD provision and ensures that it is managed and organised to meet the aims and objectives of the school and the department. While the Principal/Co-headteachers and governors carry overall responsibility for school improvement, a head of department has responsibility for securing high standards of teaching and learning in their department as well as playing a major role in the development of school policy and practice.

 

Students within the provision have a diagnosis of high functioning Autism, Aspergers or, where there is no diagnosis, have language and social communication difficulties. The aim of the provision is for students to attend 90% of mainstream lessons and 100% progress.

 

The school would welcome someone with a recognised SENCo qualification or someone working towards this.
